Shark Bite

its a contempery narrative theory where the action happens straight away such as in a horror. Its a story in three parts with the bite first then the body and finally the tail.

conventional narrative

we were given some events to interpret into a storey, our genre was horror. It had to adhere to Tordov.

Stone mountain

Deep in the rural heart of souther America five students embarked on a road trip for what they believe to be a fun filled spring break.
A few days into their journey they are halted by a flat tire and have to walked to the only village for miles around in this woodland and mountainous terrain.
The village is so small it only has a few necessities such as a local store, police station, pub, mechanics and school. Once a week a lorry drives through bringing supplies from the nearest town miles away.
Four of the group check into this humble Bed and breakfast in what appears to be a sweet little village. The fifth member is left o care for the car.
The local mechanic and one of the four begin to drive down to find he fifth member and the car. As you listen to them talk the action reverts to the fifth member who you see being attacked and disappear.
The group and now split up and the audience is ware that one by one they will disappear but the identity of the killer is never seen.
there will be chase scene and many anti climaxes with the what you think is the killer turning out to be the wind or a cat etc..
Eventually there is only one survivor a girl.
She is rescued by the local sherif and taken to the pub in the village but what you think is her rescue you soon realise is infect the killers head quarters.
In the pub there is the various village characters that she has befriended but the audience has expected each one of them as the murder but hey have all had an alibi. it turns out the village is run by the vulgar and violent Ku Klux Klan. Who have slaughter her friends that have all been of various races other than white.
There actions are revelled as she struggles helplessly in a chair tied up in the middle of the circle all eyes on her.
They approach her and you witness them toutch her and brand her as a race traitor.

I was then asked to do this storey as an anti-narrative:

The opening sot would be a young teen girls bedroom, the room would be bright with lots of light coming in from the window cloths would lay strewn all over the floor. The audience would be able to hear cheerful upbeat music coming from a radio. The camera would an round the room and as it did so the audience would focus upon photos around the room of happy smiling face. There would be soft toys, college books and high heeled shoes everywhere. To the audience this would seem like a typical teen girls room.
The camera would continue to move round the room till it settle on a dressing table. The table had perfumes and make up covering its surface and a mirror stood Centre place. what the audience assumes to be the inhabitant of the room sit in front of it. The camera pans in on her reflection of her left cheek in the mirror as she finishes applying foundation to its surface. Then there is a split screen on one side her foundation covered check on the other what seem to resemble her cheek as well but this time it is pale and covered in dirt, a trail of a tear track in resting on its surface. The music has stops you can hear her erratic breathing and then a blade runs down the cheek at the same time as you put the last streak of foundation to the other side of the screen. The audience hear her scream and then the screen foes back to the original room.
The camera follows her hand as it reaches for a brush she nocks the brush on the floor and then leans down to pick it up. As you see her hand reach the brush the screan splits and the music stops again this time you see her legs tied up to a splintred chair her arm tied to its side. You watch her legs wriggerling trying to get free. Then once again the original screen takes over.

narrative

To begin i will explore genre and narrative theory and concept genre:
i tred to use varying sources for this task books and the internet.

1. What is meant by the term 'genre'?
Genre- which originates from the french word meaning 'type'.
the genre of media production is important:

for audience: the genre allows the audience the prospective audience to predict and choose which products they will enjoy.
for the analys or critic: who can investigate the choices made in the production from the range of choices the genre offers, and comment on any variations or novel developments in production.

from advanced studies in media by Joe Nicholas and Hohn Price.

2. Give one example of a film genre and its the typical codes and conventions for that genre.

Horror:

3. Take your favourite film, or a film you have recently watched. state the genre of the film and explain some of the codes and conventions used that make it recognisable as belonging to the genre stated.

Intorduction

To prepare me for my coursework brief i will be studying the concept of short film.

My brief will be to produce a short film,a poster advertising the film and a review of the film for publication in a film magazine.

I will cover the development of a short film as a media form, the narrative process in film making, representation issues, audience considerations, generic devices and technical codes i order to help me create my own shot film.
I will then study how these issues work together to inform the promotional material for a short film and i shall explore film review techniques.

As well as producing the practical work, i will provide an evaluation and evidence of research and planning in the form of a blog or DVD extra. Along with this i will write about my practical work as part of my exam. I will explore the technical skills demonstrated and discuss a key media concept in relation to my practical work.
