for production: the genre s a like a tool box which the film maker can draw on. reflected in the way a description of genre in traditionally organised around headings such as settings, character, storyline, key signs, message and so on.
for audience: the genre allows the audience the prospective audience to predict and choose which products they will enjoy.
for the analys or critic: who can investigate the choices made in the production from the range of choices the genre offers, and comment on any variations or novel developments in production.
