To begin i will explore genre and narrative theory and concept genre:
i tred to use varying sources for this task books and the internet.

1. What is meant by the term 'genre'?
Genre- which originates from the french word meaning 'type'.
the genre of media production is important:
for production: the genre s a like a tool box which the film maker can draw on. reflected in the way a description of genre in traditionally organised around headings such as settings, character, storyline, key signs, message and so on.
for audience: the genre allows the audience the prospective audience to predict and choose which products they will enjoy.
for the analys or critic: who can investigate the choices made in the production from the range of choices the genre offers, and comment on any variations or novel developments in production.

Action: crime, murders, drug deals, gun fights, illegal activities, typical behaviour of low life characters.
Characteristics: abrasive language, relaxed attitudes/ cool nature Vs unpredictable temperament, psychotic behaviour
setting: urban, basements, bars/ clubs.
Icons: black suits, weapons
High arachy: boss, minions, gangsters mole, fem-fatal,. this shows instability of relationships. Along with a closed male group sub culture and the emphasis on family.
Themes: crime and punishment, religious references.
