audience feedback

After reviewing our film a number of times and during to the audience feedback we received, we now recognize our film may have a strong art house audience appeal. After attending a lecture by Roy Stafford “The Multiplex and Cultiplex” and your study of Winter’s Bone and reference to Norwegian Wood, Submarine and Meeks Cut Off we recognize our film has the same non-mainstream appeal and the posters you designed do work to target a 25+, ABC1 audience as well as a possible younger audience.
We did receive some positives from our focus although we realized that they are not our target audience they did on the whole find the film entertaining. Many of them felt that the sound track was very fitting to our film it helped provoke the emotions we wanted to create. they also picked up on the similarities our film has to that of Romeo and Juliet with the two star crossed lovers and how the film ends in a similar way.
What we really wanted them to understand was they symbolism of the tree how it is a circle of life and that every mile stone in the main characters life takes part around the tree. They seemed to understand and were impressed with this aspect of the production.
The posters and article were received well in general.

Hand Held Shots

in clip one you can see we have used a hand held camera technique and made it shake a little
to emulating an independent ‘lo-fi’ style cinema and using this style of cinematography to almost make the audience feel like the main charcter does just after he has taken the overdose, the can't see straight everything is moving as his brains and body begin to slow and stop working along with his vision becoming haze. In the end clip when he dies the camera also shakes this is to show how his body has finally given up and collapsed also that his spirt is some how leaving him causing the camera to shake a little it helps show something is happening that you can not visually see but hopefully the audience will feel this serial presents.

This technique can be seen in the two horror films 'Blair witch prodject' and 'paranormal activity' the hand held camera can make the audience feel like they are more connected to the characters and makes them see the scene from the characters personal perspective. It also give a realistic documentary feel to the scene.

A film like Festen which deliberately uses “raw” techniques (part of the Dogme 95 series) your film has that raw and personal feel to it for the moments taking place in the present.

The flashbacks you use are more fluid. (A great binary opposite for good times and bad, past times and present.)

the camera and film used differs according to different scenes in the film. The camera work acts almost like we shouldn’t be there.

Combination of ancillary and main texts.

my poster drafts

when coming up with my poster i had a number of ideas and tried one out in the end it was over complicated ut i wanted to try something a little more creative and original.

our progress so far

After a quick turn around in idea we new we had to get to work on our new film very rapidly so we could complete our project in time and to a satisfactory standard.
We have once again come up with a number of issues with our film and the main one is the weather. At the moment we are having extremely windy conditions making filming difficult as the camera shakes even though it is positioned on a tripod. Also how cold our actors are and are finding it difficult to perform without their teeth chattering together. This bad weather may also give us issues with continuity but as our film is flicking between the past a present, the flashback scenes would in be better with varying weather as it changes day to day so this would be more realistic.

This is a scene from the film 'Forrest Gump' and alot of the film centeres around a bench much like our film centers around a tree.

I really like this poster for the TV drama 'six feet under' its really simple but extremely effective. 'Six feet under' is set in a morgue but the series mainly centers around the family running the business rather than it's deceased customers. Therefor the tree could be seen as a 'family tree'. With the title being placed below the tree as if it is berried underground giving the subtial tie between the company and its owners lives.
The colours used in this poster are very dull and light and almost fade into black and white. This gives a faded feel to the picture.

The other image i just found when i searched for family tree pictures, but the way i interprited it was very similar to how i would want our audience to see our poster. Just with the simple adition of the tire swing to the tree shows that this is a tree that is often visited by children it is a place od joy and activity. But as it is solitary and no one appears to be around it has a slight sinister feeling or mor eof a forgotten air.

These photographs were taken in our location when we were deciding on which tree would be suitable for our film. We wanted one that was isolated so it would symbolism the loneliness and isolation of the main character. Also family tree are often just one single tree.
